Run a command on an app's Overview runs any one-line command once, in a copy of the app made from its live version, with its variables and its limits. You watch its log as it runs.

  1. Open your app; Run a command is on its Overview.

  2. Type the command, like php artisan cache:clear, python manage.py migrate or npm run seed.

  3. Choose Run.

The log shows under it, live. The last 20 commands are kept, with who ran them and how each ended.

What to know

  • A command runs for up to 15 minutes, then it's stopped.

  • One runs at a time on each app, and up to 12 an hour.

  • It counts as the app's use while it runs, like a scheduled task.

  • It runs from the live version, so it needs one: a new app runs commands after its first version is live.

  • Files it writes outside the kept folders are gone when it ends. Write to a kept folder, or to your database.

  • Owners and developers run commands and read their logs, because a log can print a secret.

For a session you type into, use the Terminal. For a command on a timetable, use a scheduled task.
